A complete copper rod or bar RFQ should state the grade and standard, section shape, diameter or dimensions, tolerances, length, straightness, condition, surface, quantity, application, documents and packing.
What should a buyer specify for copper rod or bar?
State round, square, rectangular, hexagonal or another section, then provide grade, governing standard, diameter or section dimensions, tolerances, cut length, straightness, condition and surface. Include quantity, electrical or machining application, inspection documents and packing.
Copper rod and bar RFQ checklist
| Field | Information to send | Review purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Product shape | Round, square, rectangular, hexagonal or drawing-defined section | Defines the dimensional and handling requirements. |
| Grade / standard | Drawing designation and governing material standard | Identifies chemistry, properties and condition reference. |
| Section dimensions | Diameter, width, thickness, across-flats or section drawing | Defines the required cross-section. |
| Length / tolerance | Random or cut length, dimensional and length tolerances | Supports machining and assembly requirements. |
| Straightness | Measurable straightness limit and inspection reference | Important for feeding, turning and long components. |
| Condition / surface | Temper, hardness, finish, oxidation, scratches or machining allowance | Clarifies downstream processing needs. |
| Application | Electrical conductor, machined component, busbar or another end use | Provides material-selection and inspection context. |
| Documents / packing | MTC or COA request, bundle weight, end protection and wooden case | Clarifies export delivery requirements. |
Choose the correct section shape
Use a standard shape name where possible and attach a drawing for a nonstandard section. For square, rectangular or hexagonal bar, identify corner radii and the dimension used for acceptance. State whether size is the supply dimension or finished machined dimension.
Grade and property priorities
T2, C11000, C10200 and other copper designations can appear in rod and bar RFQs. Do not select or substitute a grade from name similarity alone. Cite the standard and state whether conductivity, machinability, strength, forming or another property is important. The buyer should confirm final suitability.
Diameter, section and length tolerances
Provide nominal dimensions and permitted variation. For cut bars, add length tolerance and end condition. If the bar feeds through automated equipment or will be precision machined, identify the dimensions that control setup and finished-part allowance.
Straightness and surface
General requests for "straight bar" are difficult to inspect consistently. State a straightness limit over a defined reference length or cite the applicable standard. Surface requirements may include finish, oxidation, scratches, dents, scale or machining allowance. Define critical areas and acceptance limits.
Electrical and machining applications
For electrical use, provide the required material standard and any conductivity or test requirement. For machining, describe turning, drilling, milling, threading or another operation and state finished-part tolerances separately. Application information supports review but does not replace buyer engineering approval.
Inspection, documents and packing
List dimensional, straightness, material or other acceptance checks and any required report. Confirm MTC or COA availability for the order. Packing should address bundle weight, straps, moisture protection, end protection, wooden case or pallet, labels and safe lifting.

Frequently asked questions
What dimensions are needed for a copper bar RFQ?
State the section shape, diameter or section dimensions, dimensional tolerance, length and length tolerance. Add corner radii or a drawing for nonstandard shapes.
Why should straightness be measurable?
A measurable limit over a stated reference length allows the buyer and supplier to use the same acceptance method, especially for feeding and machining applications.
Should machining allowance be included in the requested size?
State clearly whether dimensions are supply size or finished size and identify any machining allowance. Keep material supply tolerances separate from finished-part tolerances.
