A complete copper sheet or plate RFQ should state the grade and standard, thickness, width, length, dimensional tolerances, flatness, surface, cutting requirement, quantity, application, inspection documents and packing.
What should a buyer specify for copper sheet or plate?
Provide the material grade and standard, thickness, width, length and permitted dimensional variation. Add flatness, surface, edge or cutting requirements, quantity, application, downstream process, documents and export packing. If the drawing uses the term sheet or plate, cite its governing standard rather than relying on a universal thickness boundary.
Copper sheet and plate RFQ checklist
| Field | Information to send | Review purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Grade / standard | Drawing designation or GB, ASTM, UNS, JIS, EN or another reference | Identifies the requested copper or copper alloy. |
| Dimensions | Thickness, width, length and tolerances | Defines the required finished or supply size. |
| Flatness / shape | Flatness, straightness, squareness or another drawing requirement | Supports assembly and processing review. |
| Condition | Temper, hardness or stated mechanical properties | Affects bending, forming, machining and rigidity. |
| Surface / edges | Finish, oxidation limits, scratch limits, protective film, cut or machined edges | Clarifies appearance and downstream processing needs. |
| Processing | Cutting, stamping, bending, machining, welding, plating or polishing | Provides context for material and condition review. |
| Quantity / application | Sheets, pieces or weight, recurring demand and end use | Supports production and quotation scope. |
| Documents / packing | MTC or COA request, inspection report, interleaving, pallet or wooden case | Clarifies delivery and export requirements. |
Sheet, plate and cut-piece terminology
Different standards and industries may use sheet and plate terminology differently. State the exact product form and standard shown on the drawing. If cut pieces or blanks are required, provide the finished dimensions, tolerances, edge condition, drawing revision and whether machining allowance is included.
Grade, condition and processing
C11000, C10200, C12200 and other designations can appear in copper sheet or plate RFQs, but the requested standard, chemistry, properties and condition must be reviewed together. State whether conductivity, forming, machining, welding or another requirement is the priority. Final grade suitability remains subject to buyer confirmation.
Thickness, size and dimensional tolerance
Mark critical dimensions and state their permitted variation. When the part will be machined or stamped, identify whether the requested supply size is finished size or includes processing allowance. Add squareness, corner, edge or hole requirements only when they belong in the supplier's requested scope.
Flatness and surface requirements
Use a measurable flatness requirement and inspection method when flatness affects assembly or machining. Surface requirements can address finish, oxidation, scratches, dents, protective film or suitability for plating and welding. Define the acceptance area and limits instead of writing only "good surface."
Cutting and secondary processing
State whether supply is full sheet, sawn plate, sheared blank, laser-cut part or another drawing-defined form. Include edge quality, burr, heat-affected-zone, machining allowance and dimensional inspection requirements when those operations are requested.
Inspection, documents and packing
List critical dimensions, sampling and required MTC, COA or inspection report. Confirm document format before order. Packing may use interleaving, protective film, moisture protection, pallet or wooden case depending on size, surface and destination. State maximum package weight and lifting restrictions when applicable.

Frequently asked questions
Is there one universal thickness boundary between copper sheet and plate?
No single boundary applies to every standard and industry. Use the terminology and dimensional rules in the governing product standard or drawing.
How should flatness be specified in a copper plate RFQ?
State a measurable flatness limit, the inspection area or reference length, and the measurement method or governing standard used for acceptance.
What cutting information should be included?
Provide finished dimensions, tolerances, edge or burr requirements, drawing revision, machining allowance and whether the requested scope includes shearing, sawing, laser cutting or machining.
